Ad Azimuth is one of two playable characters in Blasternal. Ad is a notorious mercenary-for-hire. The developers of Blasternal wanted players be put into situations of moral ambiguity, and allow them to make choices in the game based on their own decisions that have affect on the game's outcome.[1]
Fictional Character Biography
Ad is a genetically-bred super-soldier whose manufacture was commissioned by The Alliance as a result of the G5-Mark-1 Hazardous Biological Contraband Suppression Declaration. He and his unit of fellow commandos were left for dead during the mission, but Ad alone survived. Among his combat unit, Ad is said to have a unique physiology[footnotes 1] that not only allows him to thrive in harsh conditions normally mortally fatal for ordinary humans, but also affords him a high metabolic rate that allows him to heal more quickly from physical injury. This high metabolic rate comes at a steep cost, however, as Ad's body will ostensibly feed on itself if he doesn't consume enough nutrients. It is for this reason that Ad requires constant medical intervention, administered by way of a business arrangement with Dr. Susan Hoffsteader, a Medical Scientist who administers treatments to help stabilize Ad's extreme physiological condition in exchange for her exclusive access to study his unique physiology.
Early Life
Ad Azimuth was genetically manufactured by an unknown biological research facility, which would otherwise have been banned by Alliance Evolutionary Tampering Accords, which forbids the creation of new life forms under said accords. However, The Alliance Collective determined that these accords could temporarily be relaxed out of necessity due to a troubling discovery made on the rocky giant planet, G5-Mark-1. To protect their anonymity, the Alliance commissioned an undisclosed research facility to develop a series of prototype humanoids to investigate and possibly subdue the classified discovery made on G5-Mark-1.
Education
Ad did not receive a formal education, but instead, had most of his cognitive abilities synthesized and artificially programmed mnemonically into his brain, similarly to how an artificial neural network is trained.
Training
Ad was mandatorily drafted into the Alliance Military Operations Bureau. But his time spent under the Bureau was more for testing and validation purposes than actual military training.
Military Service
While enlisted as a soldier in the Alliance Military Operations Bureau, Ad achieved an equivalent rank of Naval Commander, and worked closely under the command of his superior officer, fellow super-soldier Captain Mason "Mace" Fulcrum, who presumably died during his mission investigating G5-Mark-1.
Development
According to Blasternal's developer, Ad Azimuth is supposed to be an analog of the characters portrayed by action star and professional body builder Arnold Schwarzenegger.[2]
